Oxidation of Aromatic Primary alcohols by Polymer Supported Silver dichromate – A Kinetic and Mechanistic Approach

V. Y. Sonawane
Page No. 1-7

Abstract

The kinetics of oxidation of four aromatic primary alcohols by using polymer supported silver
dichromate in 1,4 dioxane leads to the formation of aromatic aldehydes. The reaction is zero order
with respect to reactant, oxidant, temperature and solvent 1,4 dioxane. The rate of reaction
constant with increase in weight of oxidant, concentration, temperature and dielectric constant of
various solvent. The stiochiometry has been found to be 1mol: 1mol of chromate. The various
activation parameters are evaluated and based on various experimental results a suitable
mechanism has been proposed.
Keywords: Aromatic alcohols, dichromate’s, kinetics, mechanism, oxidation.
