Abstract

Work accident in the construction industry is a problem that continues to exist in Indonesia. Even
the estimated construction accident cases 31.9% of total accidents in all sectors of the industry. The
direct cause of the accident was unsafe acts and unsafe conditions. We established relationship
between personality and job site condition that affect building construction workers’ unsafe action
using structural equation modeling (SEM). The study was observational research with cross
sectional design. A questionnaire was administered to building construction worker, and the
following results were obtained. First, personality affected unsafe action not only directly but also
indirectly with worker constraint as a mediating variable. Second, personality did not directly
affected job site condition and job site condition did not directly affected unsafe action. Third, job
site condition indirectly affected unsafe action with worker constraint as a mediating variable.
These findings can be used as preliminary data to develop safety programs specifically for safety
communication between contractor, subcontractor, and workers.
Keywords: Unsafe action, personality, job site condition.
