multi relaxation studies of polyetherimide

Abstract

Present work deals with evaluation of order of kinetics involved in multi relaxation processes in
polyetherimide by reconsidering its thermally stimulated depolarization (TSD) studies, which is
already reported in literature. The polymer polyetherimide exhibits outstanding mechanical and
electrical properties, which remain stable over a wide range of temperatures and frequencies and
has found applications in the fields of microelectronics and aerospace industry besides many other
industrial applications owing to its heat and radiation resistance. The TSD study of this material
helps in characterization. Here we use new formalism for evaluation of order of kinetics which
depends on the model given by Prakash for the occurrence of TSD spectrum involving different
order of kinetics. It is found that order of kinetics in TSD spectrum depends on the experimental
conditions of polarization and rate of rapid cooling.
Key Words: Order of Kinetics, Multiple Relaxation Processes, Experimental Conditions,
Activation Energy, Relaxation Time.
